A 1919 reservoir on the western edge of Bethany
Lake Overholser is a reservoir in northwest Oklahoma City, built in 1919 and named for former Mayor Edward Overholser. The lake and the Stinchcomb Wildlife Refuge form the western edge of Bethany, so homes along this stretch sit where city streets give way to open water and refuge land.
The west side has its own storm record. NWS Norman's survey of the February 26, 2023 outbreak traced an EF1 tornado with winds of 105 to 110 mph from about 4 miles east-northeast of Mustang to 2 miles east-southeast of Bethany. A storm of that strength peels shingles, drops limbs onto roofs, pushes in garage doors and sends rain through every opening it makes.
On every wind call out here we check the same things: the roof deck and rafters where shingles came off, how well the fascia and soffit are still attached, and whether rain reached the attic insulation or ceilings before the opening was covered.
Wind damage patterns around Lake Overholser
Shingles and decking torn off by wind
Wind damage starts at the edges and ridges. Once a few tabs go, the next gust gets under the course above. We cover the exposed area, replace missing shingles and ridge cap, and swap out any decking that got wet or cracked before new shingles go on.
Trees and limbs on the house
A limb on the roof can crack rafters even when the shingles look fine from the yard. We take the tree off in sections without dropping more weight on the structure, then inspect and repair the rafters, trusses and ceilings that took the load.
Tornado damage across the structure
Even a weaker tornado can shift walls, lift a roof section or break every window on one side of a house. We shore what is unsafe, board and tarp the openings, haul debris and then rebuild framing, roof deck and walls in the right order.

After a storm near Lake Overholser
Get it off if it is causing more damage or making the house unsafe, but photograph it from several angles first. Insurers generally expect you to protect the property from further damage. Keep every receipt and hold off on permanent repairs until the claim is open.
As soon as it is safe to be up there. Every rain on an open roof adds wet insulation, ceiling drywall and sometimes flooring to the repair. A tarp fastened properly over the damaged area holds until the permanent repair can be scheduled.
Check on people first, then smell for gas and look for downed lines before walking the yard. Shut off the gas if you smell it and the main water if pipes broke. Photograph the damage before moving anything, then call us to secure the house.
Yes. A ceiling stain or damp insulation after a windy rain often means lifted shingles or loose flashing that is hard to spot from the ground. We trace the water back from the attic to find the opening and cover it.
