Mustang wind damage, roof repair and storm tarping
A tornado does not need to hit your street to lift shingles. On February 26, 2023, an EF1 with 105 to 110 mph winds stopped about 4 miles west-northwest of Mustang. Wind and the leaks it causes are the main reason Mustang homeowners call us.

Wind roof repair and storm tarping in Mustang go through our 24/7 line and crews from our north Oklahoma City office. NWS Norman records that an EF1 tornado with 105 to 110 mph winds tracked from west of Tuttle to about 4 miles west-northwest of Mustang on February 26, 2023.
A bedroom community in the path of winter and spring storms
The Encyclopedia of Oklahoma History describes Mustang as a bedroom community for Oklahoma City in the southeastern corner of Canadian County, growing from 2,637 residents in 1970 to 17,395 in 2010. The Census Bureau estimated 24,571 people in mid-2025, up from 19,879 in 2020, and about 75.8% of occupied homes are owner occupied.
That growth filled whole subdivisions in a few decades. When strong wind comes through, it finds the same weak points on house after house: ridge cap, rake edges and shingles whose seal strips have weakened in summer heat.
The February 2023 tornado is a reminder that strong wind here is not limited to spring. An EF1 at 105 to 110 mph can strip shingles, bend gutters and drop limbs on a roof well outside its path. In cold weather, an opening in the roof lets in rain and sleet, so tarping fast saves the ceiling and insulation underneath.
What wind does to Mustang roofs
Missing and creased shingles
Gusts lift shingle tabs and break the adhesive strip. Some tear off, others fold back and leave a crease that lets water under. We hand-check each slope, replace missing and creased shingles and reseal the ones that lifted but stayed intact.
Openings that need a tarp now
If wind tore off shingles down to the deck, or a limb broke through, rain will reach the attic with the next shower. We fasten a tarp over battens across the damaged area so it holds in wind, then schedule the permanent repair.
Gutters pulled loose or bent
Wind catches gutters at the corners and pulls hangers out of the fascia, and falling limbs crush downspouts. Loose gutters dump water against the foundation. We rehang or replace damaged sections and check the fascia board behind them for rot.
Storm repairs Mustang homeowners call for most
Mustang calls reach a person at any hour on our main line, and crews come southwest from our Memorial Road office in north Oklahoma City. After a wind event we tarp active leaks first, then book inspections in order. If a limb is on the roof, tell us when you call so we bring what is needed to remove it safely.
Mustang wind and tarping questions
It can be. Missing shingles expose the underlayment, which is not meant to be the main barrier. A few missing pieces is a quick repair now, but left through a few rains, the deck and the ceiling underneath can take water.
A properly fastened tarp over battens can hold for weeks, sometimes a few months, though wind and sun wear it down. It is meant to protect the house until the permanent repair. We check and refasten tarps if the repair date runs long.
We do not recommend it. Wind-damaged roofs can have loose shingles, soft decking and debris, and wet shingles are slick. Look from the ground with binoculars and photograph what you see. We check it from the roof with the right safety gear.
Yes. We remove limbs and trees that have fallen on the house, cut them off the roof in sections without adding damage, tarp the opening and then repair rafters, decking and shingles. If a power line is involved, the utility must clear it first.
