Storm window repair in Oklahoma City starts with closing the opening, because a broken pane lets rain soak the sill, drywall and floor below. Double-pane glass is usually replaced as a sealed unit inside the existing frame, while cracked frames, broken sashes and torn screens are measured and replaced to match.
More than a new pane of glass

Most storm window damage comes from hail hitting the glass straight on, or wind throwing a branch or patio chair into it. The glass is only part of the job. Shards cut the weatherstripping, pieces end up in the carpet, and rain gets into the sill and the wall below.
On the first visit we vacuum the glass, pull loose shards and cover the opening with plastic or plywood. Then we measure each opening. Double-pane units are made to order to fit the existing frame. If the frame or sash is cracked, we price a sash kit or a full replacement window instead.
When the new glass goes in, we reseal the stops and check that the window opens, locks and drains.
What sets the cost of a storm window repair
Glass is only part of the price. Size, type and what else broke matter more.
- Pane size. Picture windows and patio doors cost more than a bedroom window.
- Single or double pane. Sealed units are made to order; single-pane glass is cut on site.
- Special glass. Tempered, low-E or laminated glass adds cost and lead time.
- Frame and sash damage. A cracked frame turns a glass job into a sash kit or new window.
- Upstairs access. Second-floor windows need ladders and more time.
- Temporary cover. Plywood or plastic while units are made is a separate item.

What you can do about a broken window tonight
Some of this is safe to handle yourself. Some of it is not worth the cut.
| Task | What a homeowner can do | When it needs us |
|---|---|---|
| Glass on the floor | Wear shoes and sweep large pieces into a box. | Glass is in carpet or bedding, or shards hang in the frame. |
| Covering the opening | Tape heavy plastic over it from inside. | The opening is large, upstairs or reachable from outside. |
| Cracked but intact pane | Run clear packing tape across the crack. | The crack keeps spreading or the pane has dropped. |
| Torn screen | Pull it and store it flat for the claim. | The frame is bent or the window will not close. |
Window damage after a storm usually lands in one of three places, and each needs a different part ordered.
Broken Glass
Single-pane glass in older wood windows can be cut and reglazed on site. Double-pane units are sealed around a spacer with gas between the panes, so they are replaced as a whole unit made to the exact size of the opening. A pane that fogs after a storm has a failed seal even if the glass itself did not crack, and it belongs on the same repair list as the broken panes.
HomeAdvisor puts broken window glass repair at $100-$650 per window.
Damaged Frames and Sashes

Vinyl frames crack under hail, aluminum frames dent and bend, and wood sashes split at the joints when a branch hits them. A cracked frame can let water into the wall even after new glass goes in, so we check the corners and the sill before ordering anything. When the frame is sound, a sash replacement kit is often enough. When it is not, a new window goes in, sized to the existing opening.
Torn Screens
Hail shreds screen mesh and bends the light aluminum frames that hold it. Mesh can be replaced on the old frame if the frame is still straight. Bent frames are rebuilt to size with new corners and spline. It is small work, but missing screens are easy to leave off a claim, so we photograph and count every one on the side of the house that faced the storm, torn or not.
Hail big enough to break car glass
On September 24, 2024, a trained spotter measured 2.75-inch hail about 2.3 miles north-northeast of The Village, where the stones broke vehicle windows. The same day, hail up to 2.10 inches fell in southeast Oklahoma City. Hail that breaks car glass will break single-pane windows and crack the outer pane of many double-pane units, which can still look whole from inside. After a storm like that, we check the outer glass on every window that faced it.

Broken window questions from Oklahoma City homeowners
Usually, yes. If the frame and sash are sound, we replace the sealed glass unit and keep the window. A new window makes sense when the frame is cracked or rotted, or it was failing before the storm.
A hail strike or flexing frame can break the seal around a double-pane unit and let moist air in. The glass may be uncracked, but the unit has lost its insulating gas and needs replacing.
Single-pane glass can often be cut the same day. Sealed double-pane units are made to order and usually take one to three weeks, longer after a widespread hailstorm. The opening stays covered meanwhile.
Yes. Building codes call for safety glass in doors, near tubs and showers, and in large panes close to the floor. When we replace glass in those spots, the new unit is tempered.
Often not, since one window may cost less than your deductible. If the same storm also hit the roof, siding or gutters, the window belongs on that claim. We can show you the total first.
