Gutter repair after hail and wind in Oklahoma City

A gutter that sags or pulls away dumps roof water where you least want it, against the foundation and behind the fascia. We rehang loose runs, replace crushed sections and reset the slope so water reaches the downspouts.

Quick answer

Storm gutter repair in Oklahoma City covers dented runs, pulled hangers and crushed downspouts. Dents alone are often cosmetic, but a gutter that has lost its slope or pulled off the fascia sends roof water over the edge and into the soil against the foundation, which is the damage that costs real money later.

The job

Does the gutter still carry water?

Hail-dented gutter pulling off soft fascia

Hail dents the front lip and bottom of aluminum gutters. Wind and ice pull hangers out of soft fascia, and falling limbs crush whole sections. What matters is whether the gutter still carries water to the downspout. A dented gutter that drains is a cosmetic claim item. A sagging one is a water problem.

We check every run with a level, look at each hanger and the fascia behind it, and run a hose to find leaks at seams and end caps. Loose runs get new hidden hangers screwed into solid wood. Rotted fascia gets replaced first, because a hanger only holds as well as the board behind it.

Where sections are crushed or the color cannot be matched, we replace the run with continuous aluminum formed to length on site.

Cost

What changes the price of a gutter repair

Gutter repairs are priced by the foot and by the fix. These are the things that change the total.

  • Repair or replace. Rehanging and resealing a run costs far less than forming new gutter.
  • Length of the runs. Replacement is priced by the linear foot, plus corners and end caps.
  • Fascia condition. Soft fascia has to be replaced before any hanger will hold.
  • Height and roof pitch. Second-story eaves and steep roofs need more setup and time.
  • Downspouts. Each crushed downspout, elbow and outlet adds parts and labor.
  • Color match. Matching an older color can mean replacing whole runs, not one section.
What this covers

Storm gutter work comes down to three kinds of damage, and one is far more urgent than the other two.

Dented Gutters

Hail dents aluminum gutters along the front edge and bottom, and big stones can split seams and end caps. Light dents do not stop water and usually go on a claim as cosmetic damage. Dents that split the metal, crimp the bottom or create low spots that hold standing water are a different matter. Those runs get replaced, because they will overflow and leak at the same spot every rain.

Pulled Hangers

New gutter hangers going into fresh fascia

Wind gets under the back edge, and ice or debris weight bends hangers and pulls their screws out of the fascia. The gutter tips forward, loses its slope and spills over the front. We replace bent hangers with new ones at close spacing, reset the slope toward the outlet and replace any fascia board that will no longer hold a screw. Hidden hangers screwed through the front lip into solid wood hold far better than old spikes.

Crushed Downspouts

Downspouts get crushed by falling limbs, bent by wind and flattened by mowers working around storm debris. A crushed elbow backs water up into the gutter and over the side. We replace damaged sections and elbows, refasten the straps and make sure each outlet empties onto a splash block or extension that carries water away from the slab. If the house has underground drain lines, we flush them to confirm they still flow.

Scope

What a storm gutter estimate should spell out

Gutter bids differ more in what they leave out than in price per foot. Look for these lines.

  • Linear feet of gutter being replaced, listed by run
  • Gutter size and metal thickness
  • Hanger type and spacing
  • Fascia repair or replacement where the wood is soft
  • Downspouts, elbows and outlets included
  • A slope check toward each outlet
  • Haul-off of old gutters and storm debris
  • Color match with existing runs and trim
Oklahoma City notes

One storm, two kinds of gutter damage

On May 16, 2010, hail up to 4.25 inches was reported 5 miles northwest of Oklahoma City, with 2.50-inch stones at Tinker Air Force Base and 2.00-inch hail at Warr Acres. That storm left roof, tree and car damage from northwest Oklahoma City through Midwest City. A storm like that does two things to gutters at once. Hail dents and splits the runs, and broken limbs land on the roof edge and crush whatever is left. We check both, along with the fascia behind them.

Warning signs

Signs your gutters lost the fight with the storm

  • Water pouring over the frontOverflow at one spot in a rain means a low point or a blocked outlet.
  • A gap behind the gutterA gutter pulling off the fascia has lost hangers, or the wood is soft.
  • Standing water days laterWater sitting in the trough means the slope is wrong.
  • Streaks on the siding belowStains under a gutter show where it leaks at seams or overflows.
  • Kinked or loose downspoutsA flattened elbow stops the flow even when the gutter looks fine.
